Job Summary: "Clinical residency" for therapist

The Mental Health Counselor will provide psychotherapy to individuals primarily, and may also work with family systems and groups to promote holistic wellness. This applicant will help individuals process through a wide array of mental health symptoms related by not limited to: trauma, attachment injury, suicidal ideation, anxiety, depression and abuse. Applicants must be trained in EMDR therapy or be willing to be trained prior to seeing clients. This office uses a neuro-informed approach based in the AIP Model of EMDR, polyvagal theory, and cognitive neuroscience.  The primary modality of the practice is  EMDR. The ideal candidate would be interested in working with all ages of development, with particular emphasis on working with children and adolescents. 

  • Minimum initial requirements:  see 8-12 clients a week, with opportunities to grow case load

  • Office space available in Apex. NC, Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and telehealth sessions available anytime

  • Ideal candidate would enjoy working with children and adolescents

  • This employment opportunity includes individualized supervision and consultation with EMDRIA approved consultants and staff members. 

Supervision/Consultation opportunities:

  • This role will include all necessary supervision and consultation hours. These will be provided in house and are included within your contract. If provisionally licensed, supervision will be provided or outsourced based on individual need. All EMDR consultation hours will be provided to become an EMDR Certified clinician. Staff will also provide additional specialized training in sandtray therapy and EMDR with minors. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Counselor will work with clients ages 4+, individually and in family sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes.

  • Guides clients in the development of skills and strategies to deal with their problems through an Adaptive Information Processing lens. 

  • Be efficient in EMDR therapy and understand the AIP model

  • Collects information about clients through interviews, observations, and tests. Prepares and maintains confidential treatment records and reports.

  • Evaluates clients physical or mental condition based on review of client information. Develops and implements treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge. Acts as a client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.

  • Experience or interest in play therapy and sand tray is encouraged

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.

Education and Experience:

  • A Masters degree in psychology, counseling or a related field required. CACREP accreditation preferred

  • Appropriate state credentials and licensing required.
